The ISA Surf Instructor Training Level 1 includes a variety of teaching content aimed at comprehensively preparing prospective surf instructors for their future role. Here are the main contents of the training:
Practical instruction in surfing
The basic surf lesson (as well as other teaching methods) for teaching beginners
The function and tasks of the instructor/trainer
Communication and teaching techniques
Didactics, motivation, physical fitness and mental attitude, that can influence the learning process and the individual surfing experience
Planning and conducting surf courses
Own surfingskills / skills in open water
Rescue techniques with the surfboard
Recognizing and correcting errors
Fitness for surfers
Surfing equipment
This content ensures that that participants of the ISA Surf Instructor Training Level 1 acquire not only the technical skills, but also the pedagogical knowledge and safety standards to become competent and responsible surf instructors.
Training to become an ILS (International Lifesaving Federation). This training is a prerequisite for obtaining Level 1 and 2 certificates.

After the course, there is an outlook on the 20 hours of practical training to come. The "Level One Practical Assessment Book" will be explained. This includes: Recording of practical coaching hours, adherence to the "Code of Ethics". The completed "Workbook" must then be sent (signed by your assigned surf head coach) including a signed "Instructor Information Card" to the respective course instructor.
