Jana is responsible for the website and blog at A-Frame. As a digital nomad and surf lover, she can work from anywhere in the world. She has currently opted for the Allgäu and El Palmar. For the Allgäu because of the love and for El Palmar because of the waves.
A family surf camp is a special type of vacation where families stay in a designated camp that offers activities and facilities related to surfing. Such surf camps are designed to teach both adults and children how to surf and give them an unforgettable experience on the beach. One such family surf camp is the A-Frame Surf Camp.
Location: Mostly right on the beach or nearby for easy access to the sea.
Surf school: Professional surf instructors offer lessons for all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced.
Family-friendly accommodation: Comfortable accommodation suitable for families, often with special facilities such as family rooms, child-friendly furniture and safety precautions.
Childcare: Many surf camps offer childcare services or special activities for children so that parents also have time for themselves.
Leisure activities: In addition to surfing, there are often a variety of leisure activities such as yoga, beach volleyball, barbecues, playgrounds and organized excursions.
Meals: Meals are often catered to the needs of families, with child-friendly options and healthy, local food.
Community: A friendly and supportive atmosphere where families can meet other like-minded people and make new friends.
Flexibility: Short distances and well thought-out organization allow families to plan their day flexibly and spontaneously.
A surf camp for families is therefore the ideal place to spend an active and relaxing vacation where everyone - big or small - gets their money's worth.
A surfing vacation with children is ideal for:
Active families: Families who enjoy spending time outdoors and are looking for a sporty, shared activity will enjoy a surfing vacation.
Beginners and advanced surfers: Whether the family members have never stood on a surfboard before or already have surfing experience - there are courses and beaches suitable for every level.
Nature and beach lovers: Families who love nature and enjoy being on the beach will appreciate the relaxed atmosphere and the opportunity to spend lots of time outdoors.
Adventurous families: Families who like to try new things and are looking for exciting and unforgettable vacation experiences will love a surfing vacation.
Families with children of different ages: Many surf camps offer special programs and care for children of different ages, so that both younger and older children get their money's worth.
Parents who want time for themselves: Some surf camps offer childcare and special activities for children so that parents can also have time for themselves.
Families who want to learn something new: A surf vacation is a great opportunity to learn a new skill together while having fun.
Travellers looking for community: Families who want to meet other like-minded people and vacation in a friendly, communal environment will find like-minded people at a surf camp.
A surf vacation with children offers a perfect mix of adventure, learning and relaxation, so that every member of the family has an unforgettable experience.
Our A-Frame family surf camp in Andalusia is located in the beautiful coastal town of El Palmar. It's usually quiet and relaxed here, because parties only happen in summer (when we're not open ;) ). In El Palmar you will find lots of greenery, palm trees and typical Andalusian houses with paradisiacal gardens. You won't find any hotel complexes or concrete here. In spring, the most beautiful flowers bloom right on the beach. You have it almost to yourself and can go for walks, build sandcastles, play in the sand and, of course, surf. The locals are open and friendly and look forward to chatting with you.
Our surf camp is located directly on the beach and everything is close together. The distances are therefore short, so you can organize your day flexibly and spontaneously: go to the toilet, eat something, drink tea/coffee, change diapers, get beach toys - everything can be done quickly and without the hassle of packing. You don't have to pack a beach bag, but can walk to your accommodation or camp in just a few steps - and be back on the beach just as quickly. The ideal place for a surfing vacation with children.
El Palmar offers the best conditions for children and adults to learn to surf. Because here you have plenty of space on the long sandy beach, small waves and a gentle beach break. If the waves do get bigger, we head to the beach around the corner, to Barbate, and surf there.
At A-Frame, we are prepared for families and know what parents and children want. We do everything we can to ensure that guests of all ages feel at home with us. Surfing vacations with children are a special experience for the whole family. Because a stay in a surf camp means fun for everyone. You travel together as a family and yet everyone can also do something for themselves: surfing, yoga, playing, sanding, relaxing or sightseeing - the choice is huge.

Our beach camp is very popular as all accommodations are just a road crossing away from the beach. No hassle packing, just grab the kids and walk to the beach. From the camp terrace you can watch the waves and enjoy your meal with a sea view. The open playroom is just a few steps away from all accommodation.
The Oasis Camp is located around 350 meters from the sea, surrounded by greenery and somewhat quieter than the beach camp. Children can play outside undisturbed. You can get to the beach quickly with the free camp bikes. All houses have their own garden, some even have a small pool. There is a dartboard and lots of games for the whole family.
We know that parents need a vacation sometimes, which is why we offer childcare. While mom and dad surf, do yoga or spend a romantic afternoon, our trained team takes care of the little ones. Childcare costs 15 euros per child per hour. Please let us know when booking so that we can plan everything optimally.
Your children will quickly make new friends and can take part in surf lessons from the age of 8. We divide you into kids groups and adult groups for the surf lessons, but the courses take place at the same time. Parents and children surf side by side. With us you will find:

Of course, a family surf camp vacation is all about surfing - and yoga. Nevertheless, you might also fancy a change. For example, on your surf-free day. Or if you're staying in Andalusia for a few more days after your stay. That's why we're now revealing the best experiences for families and children in Andalusia. Waterfalls and natural pools for fun and cooling off.
Adventurers take note. Pack your swimsuit and head to the watermill trail. We already recommended this hike in another blog post and are doing so again. Because the so-called Molinos de Agua is perfect for families with children. During the 15 km hike, you will find everything that fascinates children and parents: Enchanting nature, water mills and an old aqueduct for mom and dad, waterfalls and natural pools for the kids. This hike is perfect for families with children, as there is plenty to see and, of course, to splash around in.
Tip: Pack your swimsuit and sunscreen!
Strong guy: Federico the donkey can carry up to 150 kg. Image: www.losburrosdejuanino.com
On the donkeys, get set, go! The association Los Burros de Juanino offers donkey tours in Vejer. Juan takes you through the Buena Vista area on old, listed trading routes. Cars are prohibited here. Only four-legged friends and pedestrians are allowed. The nature is correspondingly quiet and untouched. Juan is less quiet. He knows everything about the area and is happy to tell you what he knows. Children can either ride a donkey on their own or join mom and dad on the donkey's back. Anyone can take part, says Juan. The animals are calm and used to people. The best thing is that the contribution for the hike goes directly to the animals. One walk takes around 45 minutes.
Tip: Booking recommended.

Small and secluded bays can be found at Cabo Roche
In the shadow of the historic lighthouse at Cape Trafalgar lies the beach Caños de Meca or Faro de Trafalgar. Here you can watch the many kitesurfers when the wind is blowing.
Playa Los Alemanes is reminiscent of a postcard from paradise
Caribbean feeling at Playa Sancti-Petri
And of course. Playa El Palmar right on our doorstep.
You can find even more beaches on the Costa de la Luz here.

El Torcal is a huge nature reserve near Antequera with impressive rock formations. The so-called karst formations were created millions of years ago when the area was still under the sea. The fascinating formations were created by limestone deposits. Wind, weather and the leaning of the earth's crust have ensured that an exciting rock labyrinth has been created here, which is great for hiking and playing. There are various routes with different levels of difficulty. The easy routes are suitable for families with small children.
Have you always wanted to play cowboys and Indians? Follow us to the Wild West. The Fort Bravo Texas Hollywood Theme Park is located in the province of Almeria, not far from the Tabernas Desert. The landscape is actually reminiscent of a desert landscape in Texas or Mexico. Fort Bravo features faithful replicas of a town in the Wild West. There are two areas: America and Mexico. In the American section you will find a saloon, a hotel and a prison. In the Mexican section, there are typical Mexican buildings and a church. The replicas are still used today as backdrops for films and series. Visitors can explore everything here, watch cowboy shows or book horse rides.
Tip: You can cool off in a swimming pool.
You won't find any fences in this zoo, because the main focus here is on the welfare of the animals. The exotic animals are kept in their natural habitat as much as possible, even if it's not actually in Spain ;-) At Biopark Fuengirola, you can travel around the world in one day: Observe the curious lemurs of Madagascar, the gorillas and crocodiles of Africa, endangered orangutans and tigers of Southeast Asia and the Komodo dragons and turtles of the Indo-Pacific. Stroll between mangroves and mountain forests and observe animals from all over the world.
Tip: Especially atmospheric in the summer evening hours.
In the surrounding area, you will find two particularly beautiful playgrounds that we love to visit with our children:
1) La Breña y Marismas del Barbate Nature Park is located in the middle of a beautiful pine forest. Here you will find a playground and beautiful hiking trails for the whole family. The pine trees offer ideal protection from the sun and on windy days.
2) Atalaya near Conil is a wonderful park with a playground. The park is located directly on the coast and therefore offers a magical sea view. There are shady pine trees here too, as well as a lovely meadow for picnics. Coffee connoisseurs can look forward to a nice café.
For slightly older children who love cars and action, the go-kart track in El Palmar is definitely perfect. Here you can let the tires squeal as a family. The track, KR24, was only built in 2015 and is a very well-maintained kart track on the main road from Conil to El Palmar. You can find more information on the Facebook page of KR24.
The Barbary apes on "The Rock"
Gibraltar offers two exciting experiences: You can travel to Great Britain for a day. And you can observe the only free-roaming monkeys in Europe. How exactly the so-called Barbary apes got there is unclear. Many suspect that they once arrived here via Morocco. In any case, a visit to these cute little animals is always worth a trip. Especially for animal-loving children.
Tip: The rock can be climbed on foot with children aged 6 and over who enjoy hiking. Otherwise, there are also numerous minibuses that drive up the rock.
